EU Parliament Totally Into Porn -- No Ban For Now

By Gary Cutlack on at

The European Parliament has decided against introducing any continent-wide blanket ban on internet porn, as a last-minute change in wording removed controversial porn outlawing concepts from gender equality legislation.

The plan, as it stood, would have required ISPs to police porn content and new authorities to be set up to monitor all forms of media - including print - and would've been a huge administrative nightmare for media companies old and new.

The issues with the potential EU porn ban arose when it was discovered that a well-meaning piece of legislation on gender issues contained the option of a "ban on all forms of pornography in the media," a particularly harsh concept that was deemed much too wide-ranging to be included in its current form.
