Apple Branded a Sordid Smut-Peddler By Angry China

By Sam Gibbs on at

China's not happy with all the risqué content Apple's apparently trying to push to its citizens. The state-run The People's Daily, named and shamed Apple in a porno-shock investigation, labelling it as one of the biggest providers of the sordid material behind the Great Firewall of China. Oh the irony.

Even if Apple is notorious for its flesh-phobic nature -- with Steve Jobs famously saying "If you want porn, go to Android", and it's terms and conditions specifically banning pornographic content from the App Store -- it seems the little amount of risqué material that exists in Apple's walled garden is just too much for China.

However, those in the know about the politics behind China's moves recently have seen this as just another attempt to, err, nail a US company, which could be very bad news for Apple indeed. Considering the sheer number of tech-hungry people there are in the nation that actually produces most of our gear, Apple just can't afford to get booted out of China. [WSJ]
