Brave Researcher Visits Porn Sites and Discovers Shock Malware Risk

By Gary Cutlack on at

Security researcher Conrad Longmore has been putting in some terribly long hours browsing the most popular porn sites, arriving at the predictable conclusion that many feature aggressive adverts that have the ability to download files to your PC and open the door to all manner of nasty sexually transmitted malware.

Longmore selflessly visited the likes of xvideos.com, pornhub.com, redtube.com and more, finding that the security risk doesn't come from the sites themselves, but from domains used to serve third-party advertising. Given that Longmore says the largest of these sites account for an enormous two per cent of daily internet traffic, that a lot of room for potential hackery.

If you're planning a sneaky ten-minute period of personal relaxation, it might pay to slip on a digital condom by engaging your ad-blockers and deactivating Flash before you disengage your trousers. [Dynamoo via BBC]
