Hyundai’s had to pull an advert and profusely apologise for belittling the sensitive subject of car-assisted suicide. Yeah, OK, your car doesn’t spit out many fumes, but really? Who in their right mind thought that was a good idea?
The ad, which Hyundai swiftly attempted to distance itself from, blaming a rogue arm of its in-house advertising agency, shows a man attempting to fill his car with carbon monoxide to suffocate himself. A sad act, which we’ve seen recreated on the TV quite a few times. To make matters worse, the video was simply titled “Pipe Job”. Nice.
Yes, it gets the point across, but at what cost? It’s in pretty piss-poor taste that’s for sure. It just goes to show how badly wrong your attempts at a ‘viral’ video can go. I bet you wouldn’t show it to your mother. [Brand Republic]
