There have been plenty of previous rumours regarding the next-gen Xbox and a supposed switch to AMD processors to provide the power, with the latest solid claims seemingly confirming a move away from Power PC architecture and no easy path to emulating existing titles.

This latest Xbox tech claim comes from Bloomberg, which says "people with knowledge of the matter" have confirmed that Xbox 720/Durango is built around an x86 "Jaguar" system-on-a-chip from chip maker AMD, which has also secured a deal to provide the number-crunching bits of Sony's forthcoming PS4.

We may well find out once and for all how the next Xbox stacks up against the next-gen competition on May 21st. [Bloomberg]
