Infamous BitTorrent Tracker Demonoid Resurrected to Fill Your Computer With Malware

By Gary Cutlack on at

Long-running Bittorrent tracker Demonoid appeared to be attempting another relaunch this week, although it's almost certain the return was a scam designed to trick people into visiting a malicious site to fill their computers with malware.

A bizarre email purporting to be from people who found the old Demonoid server data asked users to visit new site d2.vu to sign in, although ads serving malware made it pretty clear they weren't really welcome and it was one big, miserable attempt at spamming people.

Here's a snippet from the rather poor email attempt at tricking people:

The heart and soul of Demonoid lives on! Through an amazing sequence of unlikely events, the data on those Ukrainian servers has made its way into the safe hands of members of our community and has now been re-launched as d2.vu. Invitations to return are being sent out only to existing Demonoid members, which is the reason you have received this email.

So if it reads like a bit like a scam, it probably is. [TorrentFreak -- Thanks, James]
