Police Called as Rival Sci-Fi Clubs Battle for Doctor Who Star's Attention

The usually sedate and harmless Norwich Sci-Fi and Film Convention at the University of East Anglia kicked off and required police intervention, after a rival science fiction group dared to enter its turf.

The bizarre scenes were triggered by an autograph session featuring the two Doctor Who actors Graham Cole and Jeremy Bulloch, who were at an event organised by the Norwich Star Wars Club. Members of local rival nerd gathering the Norwich Sci-Fi club (which organises the bonkers-looking NOR-CON event) turned up and angered the organisers by trying to bag the autographs of the stars its rival had booked. That's it. That's all that happened. That's what the fuss was about.

Things got so out of hand that the police were called, with a police spokesman saying: "The two rival groups were spoken to and advised to keep out of each other's way."

Jim Poole, the treasurer of Norwich Sci-Fi Club, said he went to the rival crew's event in his club's t-shirt along with a friend dressed as fifth Doctor Who Peter Davidson, with the intention of getting a book signed to auction for charity. [BBC]
