For some utterly bizarre reason, probably to do with an enormous amount of Korean Won hitting ITV's bank account, Samsung and ITV have joined up to make the updated ITV Player Android app a Samsung exclusive -- meaning you need a Samsung phone or tablet to install it.
Citing the oft-used "fragmentation" excuse, ITV says the delay in launching the refreshed app for other phones allows the network to "increase our technical knowledge of the operating system" before a wider launch. However, it's obviously not that much of an issue, as ITV says the app will be made available for other phones after August 31st.
The updated ITV Player app itself looks to be a big step in the right direction for ITV, though, with the new code offering streaming over 3G and 4G as well as Wi-Fi, improved landscape navigation controls and what ITV says is a more straightforward video profile system to ensure the best image quality is delivered to suit your hardware and connection.
