The Sun, that bastion of quality news journalism and tits on page 3, is planning to erect a paywall for its online offerings, in something it's calling Sun+. Basically, you pay two quid a month for access to the paper and "near-live" TV clips of Premier League footie. Tempting perhaps?
It'll launch on August 1st, but will anyone actually pay for it? The thing is, the Sun is essentially disposable light entertainment, and while people are happy to cough-up for the physical rag, will anyone pay for the hard-hitting journalism online? Maybe the football clips are enough to tempt people? Just not me. [The Register]
