Samsung Galaxy SIII Browser Bug Makes the Phone a Mobile Data Hog

By Gary Cutlack on at

Researchers who spend their days thanklessly looking into mobile phone browser performance have found a problem with the stock browser that comes on the Samsung Galaxy SIII, claiming it can use up to three times more data to display pages over 3G than necessary.

It's something to do with the browser loading all image size variants, rather than the mobile-friendly ones it needs. If you fancy wading through a monstrously complex PDF this lunch time, the research is here [PDF], although, to save you the misery, the basic conslusion is that: "The Wikipedia page dedicated to the Internet Explorer browser that typically requires 600KB of data download jumped to 2.1MB on the SIII."
