Comparing the Xbox One to PS4 is a pointless task says one of Microsoft's product bosses, as it doesn't matter who's ahead on paper -- it's all about how well-tuned the hardware is and what sort of games you want.
Speaking slightly disrespectfully about Sony's off-the-shelf approach to making PlayStation4, Microsoft's Albert Penello said: The problem is that Sony decided to go out and publish a bunch of numbers, which are in some ways meaningless. Because this isn't like 1990, when it was 16-bit versus 32-bit."
Penello added: "As a matter of fact, they actually go out and they talk about how proud they are about their off-the-shelf parts. Our guys'll say, we touched every single component in the box and everything there is tweaked for optimum performance."
Given that differences between the two new consoles boil down to slightly different types of RAM inside them, he's got a point. It's all about whether you want Halo every 18 months or a new Gran Turismo once every... four years. [OXM via Techradar]
