The Last of Us Had Porn Phone Lines "Accidentally" Hidden in the Game

By Sam Gibbs on at

Apparently some unwitting video game artist managed to spit real, live porn phone lines into a fake in-game advert for pest control (of all things) within Sony's latest big PS3 release, The Last of Us. It seems that's one easer egg you weren't meant to find.

The offending poster, as clearly displayed by Kotaku's cheeky screen grab, supposedly came about because the in-game artist didn't realise that "555" phone numbers actually exist for US phone lines starting with 800. Normally 555 numbers are dead lines, allowing games, movies and TV shows to use any and all 555 numbers without actually giving anyone's real phone number out. Well, apart from porn lines it seems. That's Naught Dog's excuse anyway, but how both of the phone numbers on the fake poster happened to just connect to two separate porn lines, well, that smells a bit fishy to me.

Anyway, Sony's pushed the patch to correct it last night, but it makes you think; from all those supposedly fake phone numbers in the movies, some of them might be real. Time to fire up Skype and start investigating. [BBC, Kotaku]
