Our famous old waterways will soon be appearing on Google's Street View virtual holiday system, thanks to a deal to provide the UK's Canal & River Trust with its portable mapping backpacks.
The Trekker system, which Google's been using itself to map the Grand Canyon, mountain tops and other places its imaging cars can't drive around, was recently made available to non-profit organisations for their own use. And the Canal & River Trust is the first to make use of it over here.
Volunteers from the trust will be wearing the imaging rucksack and walking over 100 miles of canal this month, starting from London's Regent Canal. Which sounds like a bloody great holiday idea. Can we help? [C&RT via BBC]
