Samsung will be the first of the big mobile players to demonstrate a full smartwatch, with a company exec saying its Galaxy Gear "new wearable concept device" is set to be shown off at next month's IFA technology event.
The news comes from the Korea Times, which says Lee Young-hee, Samsung's executive vice president of mobile, told it in an interview that: "We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on September 4th."
Elaborating a little on the rumoured arrival of flexible displays that some have suggested might feature in its smartwatch, Lee ruled that one out for this generation at least, adding: "The Gear won’t have a flexible display. The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry." [Korea Times via TNW]
