It's Not Just Cars That London's Walkie Scorchie's Setting Fire to

By Sam Gibbs on at

If you thought it was just Jags and vans getting the sunlight death-ray from London's newest skyscraper the Walkie Talkie, think again. The "Scorchie" has now managed to set fire to the carpet of a nearby barber's shop, and if that wasn't enough, it's hot enough to fry an egg.

The reflected burning light has also managed to chargrill the barber's door, and melt all the plastic bits in the window and around the shop. It's only a matter of time before something goes up in smoke around there if the sunny weather continues.

Meanwhile, tiles outside shops are also starting to expand, crack, and worryingly jump into the air like anti-personnel mines thanks to the death ray. Plus it's actually possible to fry an egg on the slabs of stone outside one of the shops, as City AM's Jim Waterson aptly demonstrated (below). Now that really is damn hot. The developers better come up with a solution quicksmart before someone loses a limb or gets third-degree burns or something while trying to get a tan. [City AM]
