Microsoft Registers Xbone.com to Avoid Potential Future Slaggings

By Gary Cutlack on at

The name Xbone, which would appear to be sticking as semi-derogatory shorthand for Microsoft's new Xbox One console, is now officially endorsed by Microsoft, which has bought the Xbone.com domain. Presumably to stop angry people using it against them in future.

Rather oddly, if you visit Xbone.com right now, it redirects to a Bing search for the term, which kind of ignores Xbox One altogether and suggests visitors might instead be looking for Facebook profiles or educational sites similar to Xbone.

It's an odd thing for Microsoft to do, as its human mouthpiece Major Nelson recently admitted to hating the name, saying: "I don’t like it... it disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it’s cheeky but I don’t care for it myself." [Fusible via TNW]
