Sony's Xperia Z1 "Mini" May Prove a Match For Its Bigger Brother if Impressive Leaked Specs are True

I'm not the only one here at Gizmodo UK that really, really likes the Sony Xperia Z1 and its 5-inch display, but then again I've been blessed with what some sympathetically call "piano fingers" (others would less kindly call them "salad fingers") with which to wrap around its sizeable screen. Those with less terrifying appendages, take a gander at the Xperia Z1 f, AKA the "Z1 Mini" -- it's just as fast, and just as slick, but significantly smaller.

According to what's said to be a leaked product spec sheet distributed to NTT DoCoMo and picked up by the Xperia Blog, it's packing in the exact same 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset, 20.7MP camera sensor and waterproofing credentials that made the Xperia Z1 so impressive. If it's all true, it really is only the screen that immediately sets it apart from its larger stablemate, with its 4.3-inch 720 x 1280 display a step down from the 5-inch 1080p number on the standard Z1.

Sony have yet to officially out the Xperia Z1 Mini, but given the trend to downsize flagship devices that other manufacturers are so keen to capitalise on at the moment, I'd be surprised if the Z1 Mini didn't turn up in one shape or another eventually. If Sony can deliver these top-notch specs within the shrunken-down handset, it'd be a refreshing change from rivals that like to use "Mini" branding to piggy-back off their leading smartphones' names.
