Amazon's Kindle Fire HDX and HD Tablets Slapped With Mammoth UK Prices

By Kat Hannaford on at

Eager for a taste of those new Kindle Fire HDX tablets from Amazon? While I'd advise against actually, you know, eating them, you can certainly wrap your gums around these high-end tablets -- though you may have to forego a few meals in the process.

Coming in at a starting price of £199, the 7-inch Fire HDX also comes in a Vodafone 4G-powered version for £269, with both models shipping from November 13th.

The larger-sized HDX 8.9-inch model (with a better screen -- that's 2560 x 1600, aka 339ppi, compared to the 7-inch model's 1920 x 1200, aka 323ppi, screen) will be available from November 19th for a hefty £339, or £399 for the Vodafone 4G model. That iPad is almost looking like a better buy, isn't it? (Both are pictured above.)

If the thought of living off own-brand baked beans for a month scares you silly, then the £119 HD model (above) available from October 24th, is probably more your style. The 7-inch model has a 1280 x 800 (216ppi) display, plus a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and dual stereo speakers.
