Chinese Phone Maker Builds Entirely Unnecessary 1440 x 2560 Resolution Smartphone

There's a new player in town when it comes to making things bigger than they need to be in mobile phone world, with the Chinese-made Vivo Xplay3S Android phone featuring an unfeasibly high 1440 x 2560 resolution screen.

The phone's pretty useful elsewhere too, offering 4G connectivity and a quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset, although we can't see much of a use for a display that high in resolution right now. Not when most media's struggling to get to 1080p let alone anywhere near this Quad HD level, plus the battery will be groaning at the weight of all those extra pixels to illuminate.
