Any hopes of Harrison Ford returning for the oft-mooted Blade Runner sequel seemed certain to be lost like tears...in...rain when director Ridley Scott ruled out the involvement of the Star Wars hero. But now the electric sheep-like dreams of the film's many fans could become a reality, as Ford has put himself in contention for another bout with the replicants.
“Yeah, we’ve been chatting about it,” Ford told IGN. “I truly admire Ridley as a man and as a director, and I would be very happy to engage again with him in the further telling of this story.”
It's hard to tell how hardcore fans will take this news though given the implications of the popular "unicorn theory" (spoilers at the link) that puts a very different spin on the movie's outcome. Regardless of the sequel's story, Blade Runner wraps up pretty nicely at the end. Is there any need for Ford to return?
If you've never seen the original Blade Runner, well, you'll never be a friend of mine for starters, and you should go out and buy a massive TV and a copy of it on Blu-ray RIGHT NOW! It's amazing. As a taster, check out the opening title sequence embedded above -- it's one the most astonishing sequences in cinematic history. [IGN via Total Film]
