Want a Retina iPad Mini? Better Start Queuing Now...

Though most of us lambast the Apple faithful who camp up outside the Cupertino company's retail stores ahead of each major (or insignificant!) hardware release, they may be onto something this time around -- the newly unveiled iPad Mini with Retina Display is going to be one tricky tech toy to get hold of.

Industry watcher Rhoda Alexander of IHS has tipped that supply of the high-res miniature slate will be "ridiculously tight", following a year's worth of display component shortages. As such, Alexander is estimating little more than a third of the number of iPad Mini with Retina display models to leave the factory floor in time for the Christmas rush compared to the supply numbers for the original Mini.

With the full-sized iPad Air significantly smaller than previous generations,  perhaps that's not such a problem this time around, with the lines between both devices blurred. However, if your heart is set on the Mini version, you'd better start digging out those tent poles. [CNET]
