Google Patents Social Network That Can Talk to Itself

By Gary Cutlack on at

Google software engineers have patented the concept of a sort of social network auto-responder, mooting a system that learns your usual responses (LOL, haha, :(, etc etc) and then offers to respond to people in a similar manner on your behalf.

Google described the system to the US Patent Office as a "suggestion generation module" that would attempt to analyse the sort of stuff you usually say then... say it for you. Or at least pop up a window asking you if you'd like to leave your usual sarcastic response, as Google says its social network mundane chit-chat bot could "generate suggested reactions or messages for the user to send."

So it sounds like the plan is to get all those Google+ accounts Google's made everyone have talking to themselves automatically, to win the social network numbers war. [USPTO via BBC]
