It should come as no surprise, seeing as he hasn't made a really funny film since 1996's Happy Gilmore, but Adam Sandler has today been outed as Hollywood's most overpaid actor. And there's numbers to prove it, too.
Looking at Sandler's pay (upwards of £9 million per movie) compared to the box office receipts of his last three movies, Forbes has calculated that films starring Sandler return just $3.40 (£2.08) for every $1 (£0.61) he was paid, with flops this year including Jack and Jill and That's My Boy contributing to the scant returns. Thing's should look up next year however, with the inexplicable popularity of Grown Ups 2 due to boost next year's results and set high hopes for a quick turn around for a sequel.
Sandler is not alone in offering little box-office-bang-for-buck though. Rounding out the top 10 most overpaid stars are Katherine Heigl, Reese Witherspoon, Nicolas Cage, Kevin James, Denzel Washington, Steve Carell, Jennifer Aniston, Matt Damon, and Ryan Reynolds. [Forbes]
