Local US Sheriff Offers Xbox One as Incentive to Grass on Vandals

By Gary Cutlack on at

Sheriff Greg Champagne, who looks after the people around the St. Charles Parish Sheriffs’ Office in Louisiana, is currently incentivising locals to report a spate of vandalism by offering an Xbox One as a reward for a successful prosecution.

A post on the sheriff department's Facebook page says: "The St. Charles Parish Sheriffs’ Office is investigating 11 reported cases of Criminal Damage to property in which unknown person(s) are shooting BB or pellet guns at business windows, homes, and vehicles causing damage to the windows ... Sheriff Champagne is offering an XBOX ONE gaming console as a reward for anyone providing information that leads to the arrest AND conviction of the person(s) responsible for the damage."

We're not suggesting any of you have been terrorising Louisiana with your air rifles, merely pointing out that it's a clever bit of policing. Or, perhaps, another case of people assuming all gamers are violent criminals. [Facebook via Metro]
