Samsung's GamePad and App Combo Aim for the Lounge Entertainment Hotspot

This rather cute retro lump is Samsung's next attempt at doing a universal game controller for smartphones, which it's calling the Smartphone GamePad. It's optimised for the Galaxy range, but ought to work with anything running Android 4.1 or above.

Samsung says it is "attachable to mobile devices ranging from 4-inches to 6.3-inches," with Bluetooth pairing used to connect the device to phones. That big PLAY button launches Samsung's Mobile Console app, from where the fun, and non-stop grind to avoid in-app purchases, may begin.

Availability is a bit vague, with Samsung saying it's "currently available in select European markets" and ought to hit more soon. [Samsung]
