62 Years of Global Warming in One Terrifying GIF

It may be the height of winter out, but rest assured the globe is getting warmer by the year. A lot warmer. See for yourself.

This visualisation from NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies was just updated with new data from 2013, which tied for the hottest year since 1880 at an average of 58.3 degrees Fahrenheit. A whole 1.1 degrees warmer than the mid-19th-century baseline. In the context of the grand trend laid bare in NASA's visualisation, it's easy to see how it won't be a record-holder for long.

Polar Vortex? Whatever. Better start stocking up on shorts and suncream. Shorts, suncream and disaster supplies. [NASA]
