The dozens of fans of non-league club Brightlingsea Regent will soon be able to enjoy their team's struggles in greater comfort, thanks to club management spending £5,000 on a new stand. Which they got off eBay.
The previous owners of the stand are based on the Isle of Wight, so the seating unit will need dismantling and shipping up to Colchester. There's good reason for the splurge, too, as Brightlingsea's about to play the most important game in its history this weekend -- an FA Vase fourth-round match against Bodmin. Win that, and they're three games away from Wem-ber-lee. And a nice vase.
Once installed, the stand will take the club's seating capacity up to a whopping 157, enough to satisfy the Eastern Counties League Premier Division's 100 seat minimum requirement and the minimum of the next division up, should they ever gain promotion. [BBC]
