Oh, Well, if Apple Says Mobile Payments Might Soon be a Thing, Perhaps They Will

Having watched numerous forms of contactless and virtual wallet-based mobile payment systems appear and quickly fail to catch on with cash-happy consumers, Apple might be about ready to step in and show everyone how it's done. So says CEO Tim Cook.

According to Cook, Apple believes there's room in the market for someone to waltz in late to the payments party and stitch it up Apple style, with the Apple boss telling reporters he sees a "big opportunity" to meld the security of the Touch ID system with some sort of simple payment option, also saying that providing a mobile money tool is "one of the thoughts behind Touch ID" itself.
