UK Porn Filters Strike Again, Now Messing with League of Legends Players

By Gerald Lynch on at

League of Legends, the massively popular multiplayer online arena battler, may feature some scantily-clad heros and heroines, but porn it is not. That, however, hasn't stopped the UK broadband operator's porn filters from kicking into overdrive and blocking access to a vital patch for the game.

According to the League of Legends sub-reddit, the automated filters are picking up on filenames in the patch containing the word "sex", and preventing them from coming through. Except, the lone word sex doesn't actually appear, but is being picked up within the update file names "VarusExpirationTimer.luaobj" and XerathMageChainsExtended.luaobj" (let alone the fact that this is a strategy PC game and not some dungeon porn filth).

It's just the latest in an increasingly long line of mistakenly-blocked services that the government-mandated filters are picking up on. Previously, the anti-porn measures have been called out for blocking access to sex education and sexual assault counselling websites, among other misfires. [Reddit via PC Gamer]
