It's had a good innings, right? 2011's iPad 2 is being sent to a tech care home, to be discontinued as sales have slowed to a point where Apple is now happy to focus on its most recent slates.
Currently the second most-affordable iPad (only the non-Retina 16GB Wi-Fi iPad Mini is cheaper), the iPad 2 managed to outlive the "new" iPad 3, and the Retina iPad equipped with a Lightning port. With the iPad 2 out of action, Apple's slate line up would now focus on the excellent iPad Air, iPad Mini and Retina iPad Mini -- though you have to wonder just how long the low-res Mini will last now, too. Case makers on the other hand will now be looking at their stockpiles of iPad 2 covers and scratching their heads. [Slashgear]
