When the "Glorious PC Gaming Master Race" takes to its soapbox, one of the first things you'll hear it wax lyrical about is the prospect of VR gaming thanks to the upcoming release of the Oculus Rift. But it is one trump card that Sony may be ready to wrestle away from them, with reports that it is nearly ready to reveal a PlayStation 4 VR headset.
A tipster speaking to TechRadar claims that the headset will be ready to debut in March at the Games Developer Conference 2014 in San Francisco.
With Sony having "deliberately taken its time to tweak and polish the headset before revealing it", according to the source, "the quality and resolution are really, really good [...] People will definitely be impressed with what Sony's built".
Rumours surrounding the headset have circulated since last year's Tokyo Game Show, and it wouldn't be the first time in recent years that Sony has dabbled with headsets.
With Oculus Rift yet to announce plans to bring its technology to consoles, and Microsoft seemingly without an answer to Sony's rumoured device, it may be yet another win for Sony's next-gen fanbase. [TechRadar]
