The UK is currently gripped by the sort of "Blitz Spirit" not seen since we all cheered when that nice man won his gold medal in the long jump back at London 2012, with a government minister claiming the fire and rescue response currently bailing out houses across the country is the largest mobilisation of trucks and blokes since WWII.
The quote comes from the UK's newly appointed Chief Fire and Rescue Adviser Peter Holland, who took on the job in January of 2013. Holland told the Mirror: "We are now seeing the largest deployment of fire and rescue service assets since the Second World War," as fire brigades, the army and anyone with a battered old kayak in their garage comes out to help deliver bread to old ladies and sandbag the world out.
