The strain of wild success (and a fair amount of valid criticism) proved too much for Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen, who pulled the hugely popular game from app stores over the weekend. And now a handful of enterprising smartphone owners are looking to cash in.
A quick scan of eBay shows a number of smartphones up for sale at elevated prices. The reason? They still have Flappy Bird installed on them. UK listings see bidding start at £350 for a second-hand 16GB iPhone 4S, and go all the way up to a £2,000 "Buy It Now" Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It's a trend similarly being noted on the other side of the pond.
Now of course, I'd be shocked if anyone was dumb enough to pay three or four times the RRP on a Note 3 just because it has Flappy Birds installed. But given just how addicted some players have become, there may be a handful of savvy Del Boys out there.
