It's today been confirmed that the long-awaited Crossrail train route will be extended to cater for commuters in Reading.
From December 2019, passengers will be able travel direct from Reading or Twyford into Liverpool Street Station, with the journeys taking roughly 60 minutes. Crossrail services were originally set to terminate at Maidenhead, with a shuttle bus service linking those in Slough and Reading. However, recent upgrade work at Reading Station and the electrification of Great Western Mainline has reduced the amount of infrastructural work needed to extend the Crossrail services to the new end point.
With the Central London portion of the service set to open in December 2018, customers will still be able to pay for journeys to and from Reading using Oyster cards. [Get Reading]
