Mobile analyst Rootmetrics has been criss-crossing the country carrying out speed tests, sending texts and the like, coming to the conclusion that upstart network EE offers the best general connectivity in terms of speed and performance across the UK.
EE trounced the rest of the networks by coming top in the calling, mobile data speed and text messaging performance categories. The wooden dummy mobile phone winner was Vodafone, which usually came bottom in the battery of mobile network tests, well behind EE, Three and O2.
Rootmetrics claims it uses off-the-shelf phones configured to use the best-possible mobile signal in each particular area, measuring stuff like text send failures, dropped calls, mobile web connections and more to come up with its network evaluations. [Rootmetrics]
