Do you want the good news or the bad news first? The good news? Sure -- for those that love squeezing a little more flexibility out of their iDevices, Apple's iOS 7.1 now has a working untethered jailbreak. The bad news? It looks unlikely to be available for anything other than the ageing iPhone 4 anytime soon.
The iPhone 4 has so far proved the easiest device to jailbreak with iOS 7.1 thanks to the A4 processor it uses. Jailbreak maestro @wincom was able to use the A4 bootrom exploit, removing the need to search for a software exploit instead. Jailbreaks for later devices will require a software exploit, which Apple is becoming increasingly skilled at defending against.
So far @wincom hasn't revealed when he plans to release the jailbreak, but you can check it out in action in the video below. Those hoping for a jailbreak for newer devices should turn their attentions to the evad3rs team, who are beavering away looking for a software exploit to open up later iPhones.
