Norwegian Street Artists Order Use of Silly Walks to Cross Road

By Gary Cutlack on at

This road sign can be found in the Norwegian town of Ørje, where artists have been allowed to install a pair of joke road signs either side of a pedestrian crossing by the local council. When we do it it's vandalism, but when Norwegians do it it's art? Not fair.

Sadly, there is no deep-thinking artistic reasoning behind the pieces. They are not questioning the sedentary modern human condition or raging against poor labour conditions in Asian footwear factories. Reidar Johannes Søby from art collective Kreativiteket said: "It's just for fun. There's no deep thought behind it. People live in their ordinary lives and when they see this sign, maybe they can have a little smile on their face. That's all." [The Local via The Register]
