Despite the obvious ploy from Hugo Boss to shift more suits and sunglasses, these photos showing British yachtsman Alex Thomson scaling the 100ft mast of his yacht, which was tilted to a 60-degree angle at the time, are pretty incredible.
A perfect storm of conditions was required to make the stunt possible -- the wind needed to be between 18 and 20 knots so the yacht itself could maintain the necessary angle and speed (10 knots). Check out the video below to see him accelerating up the mast and to the finishing point.
Thomson, who 12 years ago became the youngest person to win a round-the-world race, said the stunt was "the most stupid thing I've ever done." I'm guessing he got to keep the suit 'n shades along with a hefty payment from Hugo Boss, so I'd wager it was worth it. [Daily Mail]
