YouView Safe for a Further Five Years as BBC Pledges Continued Support

By Gerald Lynch on at

YouView's good to go for another five years after retaining the support and investment of all its major backers.

The catch-up and live TV platform's future was looking a little shaky for a while back there, with rumours circulating that the BBC (arguably it's most important backer) was preparing to jump ship. But that has all been proved to be hear-say, as the Beeb along with ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva have all pledged to continue to invest in the platform.

"We are delighted that all seven shareholders have committed to the future of YouView with a five year term," said YouView CEO Richard Halton.

"We have achieved a significant milestone with well over one million homes regularly using the service and high levels of usage and satisfaction as key indicators of success for the future. The next phase for YouView involves ambitious developments across a range of devices and we’re looking forward to achieving our long term target of 10 million connected UK homes."

Currently in the process of rolling out a new wave of YouView boxes, the platform's users already request three million on demand shows each week.
