BlackBerry CEO John Chen has hinted that the company may exit the handset business unless there's a dramatic turnaround in the near future, saying: "If I cannot make money on handsets, I will not be in the handset business."
Chen subsequently back-pedalled substantially on the Reuters piece in which he seemed to suggest there's a hardware exit plan in place at BlackBerry, later using an official blog post to claim his comments were "taken out of context" and that's not actually what he meant. Despite it being what he said.
Chen elaborated: "I want to assure you that I have no intention of selling off or abandoning this business any time soon," finishing his passionate defence with "we continue to fight." [BlackBerry, Reuters, via Guardian]
