Disney have released a new tidbit of information, with chairman Alex Horn letting slip in an interview that he expects each new Star Wars movie to cost around £120 million. That's a fair bit more than the original movie (about £25 mil in today's money), but less than some Disney productions.
Horn confirmed that although the budget isn't finalised yet, the figure would probably be somewhere in the £105-120 million range:
"We need to give the audience, essentially, a full meal in return for their affection and devotion and love for these properties...we don't give budgets out. But it will be a big, tent-pole movie budget."
Even if it does cost Disney all of their pocket change, it still won't be their most expensive movie to date: that honour goes to the 2007 Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which rang up at £200 million. Ouch. [Bloomberg TV via IBTimes]
