PS4's MORE COMPUTE Means Xbox One Can Never Match PS4 Performance

By Gary Cutlack on at

A developer reinterpreting controversial comments about the power disparity between PS4 and Xbox One has suggested Microsoft's box will never catch Sony's machine, thanks to hardware limitations that can't be beaten through clever programming.

Speaking to clarity quotes attributed to legendary developer Lorne Lanning in which he appeared to suggest Xbox One may one day come to match Sony's machine, Just Add Water CEO Stewart Gilray expanded a little on what Lanning actually meant. And he meant quite the opposite, with Gilray explaining:

"...what he meant when speaking to that guy was that budgets, schedules and perceivable differences would narrow, NOT that the Xbox One performance is improving to align with PS4, that is just physically impossible. The PS4 has MORE COMPUTE units, and faster memory and a whole bunch of things, that would make that physically impossible to happen."

So it's back to business as usual for the frame rate counters and resolution fanatics of the world for the foreseeable future. [World's Factory via Techradar]
