Brave people of York! There is another way! As well as desperately checking your exchange data for news while BT rolls out its fibre broadband, Sky and TalkTalk are joining with CityFibre to bring a rival "ultra-fast" network to the city.
The plan is to offer city-wide FTTP connections for all, maxing out at a top speed of 1 gigabit. Once the new network is ready in 2015, Sky and TalkTalk will then both offer their own 1Gb connection packages, so not only will there be a choice, there should be a small form of limited competition for your money.
The tech trio claims the end result will be "independent from BT Openreach’s infrastructure," with the blueprint used to connect up two more cities in the future. [Sky]
