Researchers have found that it's possible to guesstimate how clever or stupid a man may be by looking at his face, with a fairly strong correlation existing between how intelligent a man appears to be and his actual brain power. But the same doesn't work for the more mysterious faces of the ladies.
The study found that "a perceiver can accurately gauge the real intelligence of men, but not women, by viewing their faces in photographs," with "a narrower face with a thinner chin and a larger prolonged nose" the tell-tale signs of a brighter man.
As for why the same system doesn't work with women the researchers suggest it may be because we've got so used to rating women by looks alone, with the team saying there might be a "halo effect of attractiveness" acting like a sort of cloaking device that stops us from accurately estimating a woman's brain power.
