The capital's very own .london domain is almost ready to go live, and the first companies to be migrating to their new web homes have been revealed.
The London Symphony Orchestra and West Ham United Football Club are among the first big names to bag the new domain suffix, along with Fortnum and Mason, Selfridges, Meantime Brewery, Metro Bank and TechHub. Opening on April 29th, Londoners will have a three-month priority period when it comes to claiming a .london domain, before it is offered up to the masses.
The .london rollout is part of a wider push from web regulators ICANN to offer up alternatives to the .com, .org and .co.uk standards, hopefully ushering in a fresh wave of available, pronounceable web addresses. [Telegraph]
