You Can Make This Raspberry Pi Mobile Phone Yourself for £94

By Jamie Condliffe on at

There's something deeply satisfying about building your own gadgets. So when it comes to your next phone, forget Project Ara: how about building your own using a Raspberry Pi?

We've already seen a Pi-powered tablet, but a phone is truly the next level of crazed determination. Put together using £93.82 of components, this phone may not be smart or particularly advanced, but think of the deep satisfaction you'll feel when using it. To make it, you'll need:

--Raspberry Pi Model B – $40 (£23.75)

--PiTFT Touchscreen 320×240 – $35 (£20.78)

--2500mAh LiPo battery – $15 (£8.91)

--SIM900 GSM/GPRS module – $48 (£28.50)

--DC-DC boost converter 3.3V – 5V 1A – $10 (£5.94)

--Cables, connectors, switch, etc. - $10 (5.94)

And, uh, quite a lot of patience. Pretty it may not be, but it sure does work; it's really quite a feat. You can read how to make it here. [David Hunt]
