Chinese volunteers have been enjoying worms for dinner for 105 days, as part of an experiment to see if the human body -- and the brain -- can cope with using worms as its main source of protein.
The researchers are currently living inside the sealed Moon Palace One biosphere at the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The worms appear to be eaten neat and aren't being mashed, blended or minced into something more visually appealing, partially to test the mental response to eating worms. The volunteers are at least allowed to add sauces and seasonings to their worm dishes, though, plus if you squint you could perhaps pretend they're cheap chipolatas. [SCMP via BBC]
