The Devon seaside village of Bantham is about to be put up for sale in its entirety, with the estate-owned community of 40 homes, a pub and a harbour about to become the weekend retreat of a footballer, Russian oil baron or successful children's app developer.
Residents in the village are concerned that the sensitive approach of the current manager -- refusing holiday lets and second homes -- may be abandoned by a new owner, a situation that's led to the ruin of many of similar rural communities. The hope is that the National Trust may eventually become a future interested party, but that asking price will require a hell of a lot of successful raffles and coffee mornings to meet. [BBC]
