NASA's Z-2 Spacesuit Prepares for Mars

By Gary Cutlack on at

This odd thing here is what the next generation of NASA spacesuit currently looks like, with the Z-2 prototype now ready for building and testing in vacuum chambers and underwater later this year.

An impact resistant "composite hard upper torso" makes it easier on the human inside, with laser scans of wearers and 3D components used to help its size and fit. And in a slightly bizarre modern twist, NASA claims the development of the suit has somehow been shaped via a public voting system, with the Z-2 reveal saying 233,431 people voted for this current "Technology" iteration of the space jumpsuit.
