Van Thief Cheats Death Driving 50 Miles Along the M11...In the Wrong Direction

By Gerald Lynch on at

It sounds like a scene straight out of a Grand Theft Auto game, except without the gags, sports cars and, you know, extra lives. 19 year-old Ryan Nee was arrested after being caught driving a van 50 miles along the M11 and A14 -- against traffic.

Nee, from Romford, had stolen at white Ford Transit in Billericay at around 1.40 am on Wednesday morning. He then proceeded to evade police, driving along the A414 to Hastingwood before heading north along the southbound stretch of the M11. It's said that 100 vehicles had to swerve to avoid the lunatic, with the chase ending in a somewhat-inevitable collision with a HGV at the Godmanchester stretch of the A14.

Appearing in court this morning, Mr Nee has been charged with burglary, theft, taking a motor vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence. And, unofficially, with being a prize dick head too. [Guardian Series - Epping]
